Northeast

Northeast Uganda is sometimes called "Uganda's best kept secret". North-eastern Uganda is Alakara travel's home ground - no other travel agency has as good an insight and overview of this part of the country! Here you can experience untouched nature, beautiful landscapes, unique wildlife, great mountain walks, and encounter a diversity of exciting cultures in Uganda's most remote corner. If you travel to north-east Uganda, you will get close to both nature and culture, far from most other tourists. Kidepo national park has been named one of Africa's most beautiful safari parks several times, and here you really get the feeling of being alone in the wilderness!

Kidepo Valley National Par

Here the buffalo herds are bigger than the tourist herds! With 86 different mammal species and as many as 500 bird species, Kidepo offers a world-class safari.

Kaabong

As if taken out of "The Lion King"! Kaabong is a great starting point for great mountain tours, and here we also meet a diversity of unique cultures.

East

In the far east of Uganda, on the border with Kenya, you find Mount Elgon, Uganda's second highest mountain at 4321 m above sea level. Here you can join everything from small trips of a few hours, or a four to five day hike to the peak, through different landscapes and climate zones. In Eastern Uganda we also find Jinja, known as East Africa's "adventure capital". There are many opportunities here for those who want a real adrenaline kick!

Sipi Falls

Sipi Falls is an eldorado for anyone who loves beautiful landscapes and exciting walks. And for the bravest of us, Sipi offers abseiling down the mountainside next to the highest of the Sipi waterfalls! Here you can also join a coffee trip, or perhaps a cave dance?

Jinja

East Africa's "adventure capital" offers intense rafting, river kayaking, bungee jumping, ATV safaris, and quieter trips on horseback, or a historic boat trip to the source of the Nile.

Jinja also offers history, colonial architecture and tea plantations, and is a good starting point for trips to the northeast.

Mount Elgon

From cozy day trips to spectacular summit hikes - Mount Elgon offers fantastic nature experiences! The summit can be done in three days - but if you have time, we recommend spending several days so that you really get to experience the different sides of the mountain!

West

Western Uganda has a lot to offer! From savannas and lakes, to deep forests and high mountains.

Rwenzori Mountains

Kibale Rain Forest

In the rainforest in Kibale there are 13 different primates - with the chimpanzees being the most famous. Here you can join chimpanzee tracking, and meet our closest relatives face to face! Kibale is also home to rare bird species, antelopes and African forest elephants

Crater lakes, coffee and vanilla

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Uganda's most visited national park is known for its rich animal and bird life. Here you will find 95 different mammal species and over 600 bird species! In Queen Elizabeth National Park, you can experience a traditional safari on the savanna, a boat safari on the Kazinga Canal, and a hike in the rainforest where you can meet chimpanzees.

Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyoni means "the place of many little fulgs", and is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature.

Starting from Fort Portal, you can experience great day trips on foot or by bike. Small crater lakes are dotted around the beautiful landscape, and can be combined with coffee and vanilla tours to local farmers who show and tell how they work to grow world-class coffee and vanilla.
